How to prepare for the Kuari Pass Trek?

1. Carry Essential Equipments: For a seamless trek it is important to carry essentials with us like Sturdy trekking shoes, Backpack, Trekking poles, Warm clothing, including thermals, fleece jackets, and down jackets, Raincoat or poncho, Sleeping bag, Water bottles and hydration system, Headlamp with extra batteries, Sunscreen lotion and sunglasses, First aid kit, Snacks and energy bars.

2. Physical Fitness: The Kuari Pass trek is moderately difficult but it is preferable to have at least 6-8 weeks of preparation to gain physical fitness in terms of stamina , strength , power etc, Steep ascents and descents, uncertain terrains of Kuari Pass requires a good level of fitness so that you can complete the trek successfully.

3. Mental Strength: Though it is only a moderate level trek, along with being physically fit, having mental toughness to be able to survive in any weather condition,terrain, unevenness, determination and consistency throughout the trek is equally significant factor for any successful trek.

The months April to June and September to December are considered the best times to do Kuari Pass Trek.

Itinerary

  • Assemble at the boarding point in Rishikesh - ISBT Bus Stand and drive to Joshimath, enjoying the scenic drive offering breathtaking views of lush mountains.
  • Enroute Joshimath, we will witness the four holy sangams (confluences of rivers) namely Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnprayag and Nandprayag.
  • After arriving at Joshimath, check-in to our hotel/guesthouse, freshen-up and have some leisure. Feel free to take a stroll around this gorgeous Himalayan town and pack for your next day's trek.
  • Savour home-style cooked dinner and overnight stay in a hotel/guesthouse at Joshimath.

  • Accommodation on sharing basis: 2 nights in hotel/guesthouse (Joshimath), 1 night in camps (Guling) and 2 nights in camps (Khullara). Camps are Dome/Alpine.

Things To Pack

Good quality rucksack (preferably 40-60 liters) & day backpack (preferably 20-30 liters) with rain-cover is recommended, avoid to carry trolley bag.

A pair of trekking shoes with good grip, ankle support & waterproof, atleast 3 pair of socks & floaters/sandals (for campsite purpose).

Heavy down jacket (supports -5°C to -10°C), wind proof jacket, long track/cargo pants (preferably polyester), T-shirts, body thermal wears, sun cap/hat, woolen cap & gloves, raincoats/ponchos.

Personal care items like cold cream, sunscreen (preferably SPF50), lip balm, sanitary pads, toothpaste & other toiletries, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, insect repellent, body spray, toilet paper.

Personal medication (as prescribed by the doctor) & first-aid, sprain relief spray, diamox, glucose powder, tablets for headache, fever, diarrhea, motion sickness, dettol & cotton/bandages.

Personal documents & ID's like aadhar card, drivers license, passport or any other valid Government ID proofs, needed while applying for inner line permit.
