Overview
Kedartal Trek, situated in the Garhwal region of theHimalayas, Uttarakhand. It is a spectacular glacial lake surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks like Thalay Sagar, Bhrigupanth and Manda Parvat. This emerald lake is perched at an altitude of around 4,750 meters (15,584 feet) above sea level. The Kedartal Trek is considered quite tough, due to the rugged terrain, high altitudes and lack of proper trails at some stretches. Trekkers need to be physically fit and acclimatized.
While it is strenuous, the rewards are immense-pristine Himalayan landscapes, azure lakes, views of mighty peaks and serene meadows. Additionally, the Kedartal Lake contains crystal clear waters offering mind-blowing views of the lake which is akin to picturesque mountains and provides breathtaking reflections of the mighty Himalayan Peaks.
This trek might be challenging for novice as well as experienced trekkers both, which is why this trek is made for experienced trekkers at most. Kedartal Trek is 18 kms long, but the beauty and experience is worth giving a try. Furthermore, the legends say that Lord Shiva created the Kedartal Lake as a contribution to Bhagirathi River, and the lake is the origin of Kedar Ganga, a tributary to Bhagirathi.

1. Acclimatization: Acclimatize yourself if you are traversing from lower altitude, as the trek to KedarTal takes you to the higher altitude. It is necessary to acclimate your body to avoid altitude sickness.
2. Physical Fitness: Ensure you are physically fit before you embark on this trek, as KedarTal is on high altitude, start cardiovascular workout in preliminary to build endurance level and stamina.
3. Gear and Equipment: Invest in high quality trekking gear, including sturdy trekking boots, moisture wicking clothing, a backpack, waterproof jacket, headlamp, flashlight, trekking poles, sunscreen, hat and first aid kit.
4. Pack Light: Pack only the essentials to keep your backpack lightweight. Prioritize items like clothing layers, a waterproof jacket, extra socks, energy snacks, a refillable water bottle, water purification tablets, a camera, toiletries and necessary documents.
5. Food and Hydration: Carry high energy snacks, like chocolate, energy bars, dried fruits and nuts for quick boosts of energy during the trek. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the trek and consider bringing electrolyte tablets to replenish lost minerals.
Trekking on Kedartal requires physical fitness like high stamina and power along with mental strength as this trek falls under the category of moderate-difficult. It is moderately difficult due to its harsh weather conditions, high altitude, uneven terrains etc.
