The Kashmir great lakes trek is one of the most beautiful treks in India. Opting for this Trek can be a lifetime experience. It is a moderate level trek which requires a good physical fitness and takes approximately 7-9 days to complete. The trek is about 13000 ft above sea level. The trek starts from Sonamarg (9,186 feet altitude) and eventually increases to 13,000 ft. Its well worth trekking the trail to the Great Lakes.

This trek opens up for trekkers between June to September because in all the other months, you'll find snow all over due to heavy snowfall.

Hi,

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is one of India's most stunning treks. Without a doubt. It confirms Kashmir's legendary status as "paradise on Earth."

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is one of India's most stunning treks. Without a doubt. It confirms Kashmir's legendary status as "paradise on Earth."

This is due to the trek being staged on a larger-than-life canvas. It is located 75 kilometres northeast of Srinagar. Every day offers a 360-degree view of wild, rocky mountains, undulating meadows, and turquoise alpine lakes. And you get to visit more than seven of these lakes as well as five extremely diverse valleys!

The variety of terrain makes it a moderate-difficult six-day hike.

It has long trekking days with steep ascents and descents and no simple exit spots. As a result, it is not suitable for a newbie who has never gone on a high-altitude hike.

Having said that, the difficulties are worthwhile. Every day is like a postcard, with a fresh alpine lake to look forward to. The snow patches that feed these lakes make them even more beautiful. They're slipping off the serrated mountains and into the lakes. On occasion, milky white icebergs can be seen floating on the lake's inky blue surface.

Then there are the Kashmir meadows. These meadows occur in all shapes and sizes, and occasionally there are several in a single day.

On the first day, clumps of maple and pine sprout in these meadows like an oasis. On the second day, they roll down a pass into a large valley filled with horses and sheep. On the third day, just below the Gadsar pass, wildflowers bloom with exuberance. Satsar's grassy plain seems almost manicured on the fourth day, with a glittering stream gliding through it. Every other trek feels like a movie on a little screen after this one. The majesty of the trek, though, makes Kashmir Great Lakes an IMAX 3D experience. Put this trek on your bucket list if you haven't already!

The best time to experience the Kashmir Great Lakes journey is between June and September, when the foliage and flowering flowers are at their peak. This is done so that a novice trekker can also participate in this trek.
