Hi,

FOR KIDS
In general, travelling to Leh Ladakh with children is safe, but as a parent, you must take certain precautions before embarking on such an adventure. Of course, you should consult your physician before making any plans for your vacation to Ladakh.

In general, it is safe to bring children of this age group because AMS does not discriminate based on age, gender, or fitness ability. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. I believe a 5-year-old youngster would be able to articulate his or her anxiety with minimal effort. If you notice such a feeling or he/she informs you about it, please do not ascend anyplace; instead, either descend to a lower altitude or stay in the same area to monitor things overnight. If the symptoms worsen, they will begin to decline immediately.

Because of the great altitude, there will be oxygen shortages in Leh Ladakh. Small oxygen tanks, especially those containing medical grade oxygen, create a false sense of security. They will just last an hour or two at most.

It is advised to take a medium-sized oxygen cylinder that can rescue you in the event of an emergency.

Tips for Visiting Leh Ladakh with Children

1. Gradually increase the altitude

2. Keep yourself & kids adequately hydrated

3. Protect the infants or kids from cold

4. Protect the soft skin of kids

5. Avoid staying longer at high altitude

6. Keep an eye on the weather

7. Be very vigilant about your kid’s physical conditions

It is critical to keep your body hydrated without becoming dehydrated (read below) I suppose that up to 8000 feet (like up to Manali), there aren't any serious or obvious difficulties with altitude sickness, but above that altitude (>8000 feet), it is always recommended that the body, whether adult, child, or infant, undergo proper acclimatization.

FOR ELDERS

It is high in altitude, but as long as you are in excellent health and have no diseases, you can travel to Ladakh as you would anywhere else. Some general precautions that apply to everyone will also apply to elders.

However, it cannot be ignored that old age comes with its own set of obstacles (and I mean no offence by it). As a result, these safeguards will be even more important for senior citizens.

Of sure, there are elderly folks in Ladakh. But the thing about them is that they've been born and brought up here. However, for a visitor, it is an altogether new environment to which our bodies are not acclimated, so the precautions.

When travelling to Ladakh with parents or senior citizens, there are a few things to keep in mind.

A doctor's consultation is required.

Visiting Ladakh with family is a duty in and of itself, and nothing should be taken lightly. Rather than absorbing advice and cues from strangers and travelers, check your family doctor about the safeguards that must be taken. Another disadvantage of asking individuals around is the variation in each physique. These are a few critical issues that should only be discussed with specialists and no one else. Inform the doctor about your medical condition and, if possible, schedule a medical check-up.

Severe mountain sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness is a big issue that not only the elderly but also the young must deal with. This condition is observed in the majority of visitors to Leh Ladakh who have not fully acclimatized their bodies to the difference in air pressure and low oxygen. Despite being the mildest kind of altitude sickness, people can experience dizziness, nausea, muscle discomfort, headaches, nasal bleeding, and a few other difficulties depending on their physical strength.

Many doctors have already said that AMS is not affected by age or gender. It is highly depending on one's health and the exhaustion generated by the long journey. If the entire family is flying to Ladakh, it should be assured that each member of the family gets enough time to acclimate their bodies. People who want to travel the roads for this journey, on the other hand, should plan a pleasant schedule, especially for the old. Several individuals have suggested keeping Diamox in the pouch, but don't believe anything they say. Before taking any medications or storing any in the pouch, consult your doctor.

Wear appropriate clothing

Ladakh's temperature varies greatly according to day and night, sunlight and shade, and low or high altitude. Seniors must have a windproof jacket in addition to woollen clothing. The winds here are strong and cold all year. It is an essential precaution to protect the elderly and allow them to fully enjoy their time. Protect their heads and necks by wearing warm socks and waterproof shoes. Walking on sluggish or such pathways is usually tough, and water seeps into the shoes, posing a problem for them.

Let them be comfortable

Another common question is when is the best time to visit Leh Ladakh with parents or senior persons. Summer is the most comfortable and perfect season to travel here. Even though it will not be particularly warm in the summer, it is nevertheless worthwhile to visit. This is the peak season for visitors to Ladakh; all roads are clear, all passes are motorable, and so on. One thing to remember about the senior persons is their comfort throughout the journey. Everything is vital for them, from eating on time to resting appropriately. Stop at regular intervals so they can get out of the car and move about.

few more tips are -

  1. Keep them hydrated
  2. Keep medicines
  3. Keep a complete itinerary beforehand
