How to Reach Kalpa Chitkul

By Air: Fly to Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport, the closest aerodrome to Kalpa and Chitkul. On arrival, take a taxi or bus to reach your destination. It saves time but can depend on flight availability and weather conditions.

By Road: Drive from major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, or Shimla. This option provides the freedom to explore en route, stop at viewpoints, and travel at your own pace. Be prepared for winding mountain roads and breathtaking Himalayan scenery.

Take a bus from Shimla or Reckong Peo to Kalpa or Chitkul. While economical, the journey can be long and less comfortable. By Train: Take a train to Shimla, the nearest railway station. The journey through the narrow gauge Kalka-Shimla railway is pictorially beautiful with numerous tunnels and bridges. From Shimla, proceed on the road to Kalpa and Chitkul via bus, taxi, or private vehicle.

Kalpa Chitkul Winter Temperature in December

Winters are quite tough in Kalpa and Chitkul, and the temperatures decrease a lot in December. The day temperature can range from –2°C to 8°C in Kalpa, while during the night it goes further down to – 10°C or below. Chitkul is far colder than Kalpa, as the altitude is much more, and hence the temperature is almost below 0°C throughout the day, reaching –15°C or below at night. There may be snowfall which, on one hand, adds to the beauty of a winter wonderland view, but on the other, it increases the challenges and risks of the journey. Visitors should be prepared to meet extreme cold, limited accessibility, and potential road closures due to heavy snow.
