The journey starts within the picturesque beauty of Chopta tucked away in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, Chopta is a hidden glittering gem often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand”, dazzling travelers with its lush pastures, dense forests of rhododendron and deodar and mesmerizing views of the snow-capped peaks. It serves as the base camp for the trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva Temple in the world. The trek to Tungnath from Chopta is a moderate ascent meandering through picturesque trails adorned with vibrant wildflowers and offering occasional encounters with playful Himalayan Wildlife.
As travelers ascend, they are greeted by the majestic sight of the towering Himalayan Peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba standing sentinel over the valley below. Upon reaching Tungnath, at an altitude 3,860 meters (12,073 feet), travelers are immersed in a realm of spirituality and serenity. This ancient Temple is believed to be over 1000 years old, exudes an aura of reverence, inviting pilgrims and trekkers alike to pay homage to Lord Shiva.
From Tungnath, the trek further leads to Chandrashila, the summit embellished with mesmerizing views of the Himalayan range, making it a perfect climax for Chopta - Tungnath expedition.
Further on, the natural and spiritual immersion of Chopta, Tungnath, the journey concludes in the bustling city of Rishikesh located at the banks of sacred Ganges River. Rishikesh is also known as the “Yoga Capital of the World” offers a lively tapestry of spirituality, adventure and restoration.
Tourists can also explore countless Ashrams and Temples scattered around the city, each resonating with centuries old-wisdom and tranquility. Good quality rucksack (preferably 40-60 liters) & a small day bag pack (for hikes/treks purpose) with rain-cover is recommended, easy to carry trolley bag.
A pair of shoes (mainly trekking/sports) with good grip & waterproof, atleast 2 pair of socks & floaters/sandals/slippers.
Heavy down jacket, light fleece, long track/cargo pants, long/short sleeves T-shirts, body thermal wears (as per season), sun cap/hat, woolen cap & gloves (as per season), hoodie, raincoats/ponchos.
