Overview
According to Hindu belief, Chardham is the four most important Hindu religious site in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state, India. Yamunotri, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Kedarnath are collectively known as Chardham. Chardhams are sacred temples dedicated to lord Vishnu and lord Shiva.
The ChardhamYatra of Uttarakhand is dignified as one of the foremost auspicious Yatra for Hindu devotees and this Yatra visits by a huge percentage of pilgrims from all over the earth. The essence of the Gods and nature's appeal of the ideal Himalayas are a perfect fusion that improves the religious and religious warmth of the Chardham Yatra. Along with spiritual peace, the Chardham Yatra promises of numerous surprises and joys.
The Yamunotri temple is devoted to Goddess Yamuna and it is located at an elevation of 3293 m above sea level in Garhwal Himalayas. According to legend, the temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of TehriGarhwal. The temple has a hot water spring nearby, where devotees have to take a dip before entering the main hall of the shrine.
The Gangotri temple is devoted to Goddess Ganga and it is located at an elevation of 3048 m above sea level in Garhwal Himalayas. As per the legend, King Bhagirath meditated here for several years to bring down Goddess Ganga on earth. A small temple of Lord Shiva is also located nearby, called Gangotri Temple.
The Kedarnath temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and it is situated at an elevation of 3584 m above sea level in Garhwal Himalayas. According to legend, the temple was established by the Pandavas, a group of five brothers who were the protagonists of Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and has a vast lake at its base.
The Badrinath Temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India. It is situated at an elevation of 3133 m above sea level in Garhwal Himalayas. According to legend, it was established by Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century CE. The temple has a beautiful idol of Lord Vishnu in an ancient shrine.
Gangotri Temple is situated at an elevation of 3,048 m above sea level in Uttarkhand state of India. It is devoted to Goddess Ganga and is one of the four holy sites of Char Dham Yatra, an important pilgrimage journey for Hindus. The temple was established by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore in the 18th century CE. It has a large shrine dedicated to Goddess Ganga and several idols of Hindu gods and goddesses.
