Have you ever stayed in a Hostel? Try it today... I am sure; you would love it. I usually stayed in hotels and resorts while my traveling but after the tried to stay in a hostel, I always prefer to stay in Hostel whenever I travel solo. Thats doesn’t mean I hate hotels and resorts, but for solo travelers it is heaven. This is the story of my stay in “Zostel Chitkul” where I stayed for 2 days and celebrated my 20th birthday. On my trip to the last village of India - Chitkul (Chitkul or Chhitkul, still confused), I stayed in an excellent hostel named - Zostel. Well, zostel is a well-known hostel chain of India. I stayed in their many hostel franchises before like in Delhi, Kaza (Spiti Valley), Mumbai, etc. but this time, I choose to stay in their hostel in Chitkul where I got the best experience ever. They provide me with excellent services; also, their staff members were also friendly. On 5th August, We (Me and My friend Mir Fayaz) left the pollution of Delhi and went to the land of Himalayas- Himachal Pradesh. It was a very special trip for me because I was visiting there for celebrating my 20th Birthday which was on 7th August. I didn’t plan for a birthday party yet. I just wanted to visit in the mountains for celebrating my birthday by doing traveling and trekking, and they (Zostel Chitkul) makes my birthday celebration memorable and best birthday ever for me. On 7th August, at 12 o’clock in Midnight, their team comes to the common room with a birthday cake where we were playing Jenga and gave us a surprise. It was a fantastic experience to celebrating the birthday with all unknowns. I was amazed that how they bring Cake at this high altitude village. By the way, this was my personal experience of the birthday celebration at Zostel Chitkul, let’s talk about general information- Chitkul is a small village of Kinnaur District and also known as the last village of Indo- Tibetan border. This is a little far from Delhi (22-hour journey), but it is a village located in between the snow-capped and green mountains with pine trees. You will find the cold temperature in the month of May- June here and In winter time (December to April), You will find heavy snow and very low temperature (Average -5 to -20 degree). You can easily reach here by public transport by catching HRTC (Himachal Pradesh Roads Transport Corporation) bus to Sangla from Delhi, then you can get direct bus to Chitkul from there. Everyone loves to stay for a long time in any hostel or other budget stay hotels in Kinnaur. So Zostel opens the first and only hostel in Chitkul. This gives us a very good option to budget stay in front of the mesmerizing view of Snow-capped mountains. There is not only dorm beds here to stay. You can stay in personal room or Swiss tent (attached washroom) as well. I loved to enjoy the bonfire party at night time under the star trails in the lawn area of this hostel. Here, You have 3 options to stay - Staying in the Dormitory, Personal room, and Swiss tents. I stayed in dorm bed for the first night and stayed in a tent at the second night. As my experience, both stay was pleasant. The bed was comfortable, and there were lockers as well in the room. All rooms had attached washroom and balcony with the mesmerizing view of Himalayas. There were 4 beds in each dormitory room which is the thing I like most about this hostel. As I already said that they have attached washroom with all kind of room and tent as well. They provide 24*7 hot and cold water services in the restroom. I enjoyed my bath under the hot water shower in that freezing cold of Kinnaur. There were some basic toiletries as well in the washroom. After the location, the food is the second thing; I liked most of this hostel. I did dinner and breakfast there which was so delicious and organic. I was feeling like my home shifted to the Himalayas and I am eating home made food. There is a good parking space in the hostel, so don’t worry about coming on your car or bike, you can park here safely. The view of the lush greenery and snow-capped Mountains from the room or balcony is mesmerizing. I visited there at night time of a foggy day, but the next day, when I woke up, I felt like I am in heaven. The view was more fantastic than I expected. This is another thing which always forces me to stay in a hostel instead of staying in a hotel or resort - “The Common Room.” I and my friend (Mir Fayaz) did lots of fun there. There were many books to read like novels, magazine, etc. , many indoors game to play like ludo, Jenga, business, etc., A T.V for watch with channels in multiple , etc. in their common room. Visiting the river Red Flag Trek Local Village Walk Visit Army Checkpost Do Mountain Biking Eat Lunch at The Last Restaurant of India (Hindustan ka Aakhiri Dhabha) It is located nearby to Chitkul bus stop, you can easily reach here by walking. For reaching Chitkul from New Delhi, you need to catch a bus to Sangla from Kashmiri Gate ISBT (Bus Timing 09:50 PM and Fare is Rs 730) and from Sangla, you can easily come to Chitkul by bus or Taxi (Taxi cost in between Rs 1200-1500). The booking prices of Zostel Chitkul are- Rs 400 for Mixed Dorm Bed Rs 400 for Female Dorm Bed Rs 1800 for Personal Room Rs 1999 for Swiss Tent If you are ever planning to Visit Chhitkul or nearby in Kinnaur district, I strongly prefer you to try your stay at “Zostel Chhitkul”. I am sure this stay make your trip memorable.
