If you’re looking to get away this year and you don’t fancy heading abroad, or perhaps you just simply want a change of scenery, we are very lucky to have many beautiful areas to explore here in the UK that is right on our doorstep.

The Scenery

One of the main things that draw people to the Lake District time and time again is how stunningly beautiful the area is, with lakes, fells, and woodland full of incredible flora and fauna.

We all need to surround ourselves with beauty from time to time, and the Lake District certainly fits the bill as a place to do so, whether you’re active or you just like to chill out, there’s beauty to be found where ever you look.

Photographers, artists, and poets are particularly inspired by the Lakes, so if you’re in any way artistically inclined then you should certainly think about planning a trip.

The walks

With so much to see in the area, getting out there and experiencing it is a must, and if you’re keen on hiking there are an endless number of different routes to enjoy.

Whether you fancy bagging yourself some Wainwrights or just taking a gentle stroll around a lake there are walks for people of all abilities. Walk Lakes has a great directory of different routes for you to try, graded according to difficulty, and also factoring in things such as bog factor and dog friendliness.

For those with limited mobility, the lakedistrict.gov website lists all of the Miles Without Stiles routes that are easily accessible, so there really is something for everybody.

The events

There’s plenty going on in the Lake District, with events on year round. From sporting events such as the Great North Swim which takes place in Windermere, to beer festivals, comic cons, and music festivals, there’s something for everybody to enjoy.

The accommodation

When looking for a place to stay in the Lakes you can go as grand or as basic as your heart desires, with an abundance of campsites to be found around the area, as well as camping pods and even hostels.

At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find cozy country house hotels such as Broadoaks if you’d like a touch of luxury and tradition during your stay, combined with beautiful views.

The activities

There are all sorts to see and do in the Lake District, and there’s no chance of getting bored. If you like museums there’s the World of Beatrix Potter museum, the Lakeland Motor Museum, or the Wordsworth Museum to name but a few.

You’ll find plenty of culture at the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, or why not try something different and experience the Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine if you’re the daring sort?
