Kodachadri is a mountain peak (1343m above the sea level) with dense Tropical rain forests in the Western Ghats in South India, 78km from Shimoga. It is declared as a natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government and it is the 13th highest peak of Karnataka. The name of Kodachadri is derived from the words Kodacha and Adri, which in the local language means home of the hill jasmine flowers.
Kodachadri offers some most amazing landscapes that are home to numerous peaks and waterfalls, with pleasantly cool surroundings. It can be considered as the trekker's paradise and encompass everything from perfect dense forests to the meadows spreading everywhere and a view of Arabian sea making it a most ideal nature getaway to Bangalore. It is perfect for travellers seeking adventurous and spiritual experience. Situated in the middle of the Mookambika National Park, it is home to several endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna including Malabar langur, Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar grey hornbill, paradise flycatcher, tiger, leopard, elephant, hyena, gaur, Indian rock python and many more, of which several are threatened.
