Yes, you can visit Zanskar valley by following one of the 2 routes :-

Route1 – Manali – Jispa- Leh – Zanskar

Route 2 –Jammu – Srinagar – Kargil – Zanskar

So, you can opt for any one route which you like. Well route 2 is the shorter one.

Hi,

Here are all of the ways to get to the Zanskar Valley:

By Bus

Because Zanskar is a remote area, public transportation is infrequent and severely limited. It is, however, the cheapest way of transportation to Zanskar Valley. The bus service from Leh to Padum runs once a week. The bus departs from the Leh bus station and arrives in Kargil. It spends the night there before continuing on to Padum the next day. It is recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance because the availability of seats on this bus is questionable. There are a few buses that start their journey in Kargil. So you can take one bus from Leh to Kargil and then change to another bus from there. However, buses from Kargil only go as far as Sankoo, Parkachik, and Panikhar. The bus departs Leh at 2:00 p.m. and arrives in Kargil at 8:00 p.m. The ticket from Leh to Kargil is roughly INR 600 per person.

By Private Vehicle

There is only one way to get from Leh to Zanskar Valley via Kargil.

Start early in the morning from Leh and try to go to Kargil as soon as possible. The road from Leh to Kargil is one of the most picturesque in Ladakh. It is best to divide the journey into two halves. The travel from Leh to Padum will take you two days, depending on your speed, and you will need to stop for the night at Kargil. To go to Kargil, either the Mulbekh and Lamayuru road, which is the preferred route, or the Batalik sector. Cross the Fotu La and Namik La passes before continuing on to Drass.

Cross the Suru River to the right a few kilometres beyond Sankoo and continue to Panikhar. The roads are largely good till Panikhar, after which they deteriorate and become even poor until Padum. The entire length of the route is unmetalled dirt. Continue travelling alongside the Suru River until you reach Rangdum. Spend some time here and explore the well-known Rangdum monastery. Then head south into Pensi La, a rather simple pass to traverse before continuing on to Padum. Then proceed down into the Zanskar valley.

Your best option is an SUV with substantial ground clearance. This is due to the fact that mechanics on the road are only available in Leh and Kargil. Because you will be travelling through extremely remote locations, even the tiniest breakdown can be disastrous. Fill up your tank at Kargil and you should be able to make it to Padum. If necessary, you may simply purchase both diesel and gasoline in Padum.
