Exploring Offbeat Places Near Puri with Sterling Holidays
“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun.”
After lots of trips to the mountains, finally, I visited a beach. I visited many beaches in my travel journey, but this time, I explored some offbeat beaches. I planned a trip to Odisha with my friends to explore the beaches of “Bay of Bengal Sea.” We booked our stay and tour package with sterling holidays and started our trip from Delhi. Some of my friends were coming from Kolkatta as well.
On 28th August, we started our journey to Puri from Delhi by catching the flight to Bhubaneswar. It was monsoon season, so I found a wonderful scenic view from the flight. After reaching Bhubaneswar airport, we start our journey towards Puri in a taxi sent by Sterling Holidays for picking us.

Ragurajpur – A Heritage Village Near Puri-
After a nap of 30 minutes, we started our journey towards first offbeat experience – Raghurajpur. Raghurajpur is a heritage village of Odisha which is famous for Pattachitra painters and their artworks, Odia culture, and Gotipua Dance. It was 25-30 minutes drive to Raghurajpur from the Sterling Puri. After reaching this heritage village, we got the experience of Odia hospitality; they welcomed us by Tilak. We tasted the traditional homemade Odia thali named as Chuda Kadamba which is a local delicacy of Chandanpur Region.
After taking the traditional Odia meal for our lunch, we went for the village tour. As I already said that this village is famous for Pattachitra painters and their artworks. So, we saw many people who are doing artwork, making paintings and all. I never know that Odisha is also famous for art & craft before visiting this village.
Gotipua Folk Dance-
Visiting this village was a good Idea, and the most exciting part of this village tour was the cultural dance of this region in Odisha – Gotipua. Goti means – Single and Pua mean Boy, so the meaning of this name only boy dance. In this dance, the boys get ready and act like girls and dancing. In this dance performance, the young boys praise lord Jagannath and Krishna. This dance is mainly organized in the temples of Odisha. We attended the practice session of this amazing dance performance by the young and active boys of Raghurajpur. I loved their dedication and hard working. I am thankful for sterling holidays who told us about this village and organize a trip for us. Would like to visit this village in the future as well.
Sudarshan Craft Museum-
After visiting the artist village – Ragurajpur, We moved towards a museum named – Sudarshan Craft Museum. This museum is famous for artworks like carvings in wood, stone and fiberglass, handicraft items and also fine paintings. This museum started in the year 1977 by Shri Sudarshan Sahoo. We saw the artist working hard on making the handicraft items. The timings of Sudarshan Craft Museum are- 8 AM – 12 PM & 2 PM – 8 PM, you will find it Closed on Saturdays & Sundays. The entry fee of Sudarshan Craft Museum is Rs. 5 for Indians & Rs. 50 for Foreigners.

Next Day, we woke up a little bit late, as we enjoyed our last night a lot. After taking a delicious buffet breakfast at the Sterling Puri Resort, we started our day, and today our destination was – Chilika Lake.
Chilika lake is Asia’s biggest saltwater lake spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of state Odisha. Chilika is recognized as one of the most important wetlands in the world because it is home to a phenomenal variety of birds.
It was 80 minutes drive from Sterling Puri to Satapada which is the bank of Lake Chilika. After visiting there, we got ready for boating in this beautiful lake. The cost of boating in Chilika lake is starting from Rs 1000 for 6 people. It was a fantastic experience to watching the dolphins in this lake, visiting the sea mouth beach. We visited near to that point where this great lake meet to the sea – “Bay of Bengal.” It was an amazing experience to roaming around that island, enjoying the view of sea mouth beach. After the 3 hours boat ride and 3 hours drive, we came back to the hotel and took rest.
They organized a folk dance performance at night time in the resort after knowing that we liked the practice session of Gotipua.
This time, everybody was wearing the proper attire and perform 4-5 kinds of dance. Gotipua dance of Chandanpur region, Odia traditional dance and the folk dance of Sambalpur region of Odisha. These dance performances made our night precious. I totally got that experience what I expected from this trip with Sterling Holidays.
